Godby's Jarvis Davis wasn't sure how his football career would pan out following his senior year, but July brought a pleasant surprise - he still gets to be a Cougar, just wearing different colors.
The three-year starter in high school recently visited Concordia University Chicago and accepted a partial scholarship.
“I just came back last Sunday,” he said. “It was nice. I had a couple of colleges that wanted me to walk on, but this was the main one who did the most for me.”
The Division III program, which competes in the Illini-Badger Football Conference against schools including MacMurray and Aurora, is still figuring out where Davis will best serve them.
“The coaches are kind of fighting over me right now,” he explained. “The coach who recruited me wanted me to play fullback and the others wanted a defensive tackle.”
But more importantly, Davis was happy to find somewhere he felt at home and could continue playing the game.
“It didn't matter to me as long as I went somewhere,” he said. “(The recruiting process) is kind of hectic. You prepare and everything and try to find a school you're comfortable with.
“The coaches made me feel like family when I got there.”
Davis was a big part of Godby's undefeated regular season and his only piece of advice for his former teammates is simple.
“Take it a game at a time and work hard,” he said.
